The Bali Retreat, 2017

 

In Bali, we headed to a retreat that’s a mile away from our screen-ridden lives...

And for a few days, we freed our minds of the constant noise from the outside world; no social media, no brands, and no crowds. For many of us it was the first time we were truly alone with our minds in silence; which at first felt uncomfortable and even a little scary. But as the sun set and rose, we began finding the silences surprisingly freeing; it brought deeper reflections within ourselves than ever before, and taught us things about ourselves that genuinely surprised.

 

We hired out the whole of Landih Ashram for our tribe – a place of spirituality and natural beauty at the very top of a mountain neighbouring Mount Agung.

We partnered with Will, an experienced meditation teacher – and Emma, an experienced yoga teacher – to take us on a three day inner-journey once we got to the Ashram.

What we did there was pretty tough for our tribe, who were used to doing 20 minutes of meditation at a time (if that!). Our teacher Will went straight into a 1 hour sitting meditation with us; and our day was filled from then on with talks, walking meditations, sitting meditations and free time to wander the beautiful ashram. All totally technology free.

Suffice to say that never have so many blogs been written by our tribe as during those three days; pens scribbling away on notebooks as our creativity rose with the increased freedom our minds felt. 

The food we ate was phenomenal too; vegan meals made of the local produce of the mountain with sweet and spicy local twists. Heck, even our meat-loving tribe-member Jake didn't complain.

We began each morning with a yoga session before eating any food; giving some movement to our days and stretching our bodies in harmony with our minds. The mix of natural beauty, yoga, varied meditation and technology-free spare time came together to give every tribe member a profound experience

The retreat was a moving experience; one totally out of our comfort zones that expanded our self awareness and made us realise the value of silence.

And we didn't just do this retreat for our self-awareness;– it was also to begin improving our focus. Regular meditation has been proven to increase our ability to focus and to live in the moment; something that's getting harder and harder in our fast paced technology-connected world. 

The retreat was the inspiration for our tribe to begin meditating regularly – and we hope it'll be just as inspiring for future tribes; so that they can enjoy being in the present and do things that really matter to them.
